Lake Tenkiller and along the Upper and Lower Illinois River process almost 1,400 acres available for camping. The Tenkiller area is a paradise for campers. The area has two state parks and very many campgrounds that are privately owned or managed by the U.S. Corps of engineers. There is room for everybody with a range of facilities.These include sites for RV hookups and camp sites. The parks have boat ramps, restrooms with showers, picnic sites, and tables, drinking fountains, swimming areas, playgrounds, and grills. Some Handicap accessible sites are also available. Group camping areas are plentiful and packages may be arranged by calling any of the state parks or private sectors. Many visitors use these sites for family reunions, weddings, group retreats, and corporate events. Special programs are also performed at the Tenkiller State Park’s Nature Center. Call ahead for reservations to make arrangements for special programs for groups.
Tenkiller Lake’s swimming areas are protected with safety buoy markers so boaters can be aware and most camping sites are patrolled night and day by the State Park Rangers, Oklahoma Scenic Rivers Commission Rangers, and the Corps of Engineers. The camping rates are reasonable. There are manyl free public sites across the Upper Illinois River.
The Campsites for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers parks and recreation areas can be reserved by dialing toll free to 1-877-444-6777. Individual campsites may be reserved 240 days in advance, while group facilities may be reserved 360 days in advance. Reservations are recommended for holidays and the summer season.
